My Crafty Self

Now I know what your thinking and I am not talking about my usual crafty "try to take over the world" self. I actually did crafts! I have been trying to keep myself and the girls busy while David is away doing a clinical rotation in Syracuse (which means he stays up there for 4 days and is home for 3). So first I finished my yoga mat bag that I started a year ago.

I have to admit it turned out pretty darn awesome. It's made with recycled shopping bags that you melt to make them stronger and then piece them together (my fabulous quilter friend Heidi inspired me). Then I decided I needed a project to keep not only me busy but the kids too. So first we made and decorated cupcakes. But after eating 4 in succession, I really felt that if our projects were edible I might gain a thousand pounds. So then we moved on to pajama pants. The girls picked out the fabric and they helped me cut them out. Now we sew a little bit on them a few times a week.

And just a side note for those of you who are as paranoid as my mother. I sit right behind them the whole time they sew, so no needles go through their finger. It has been great! The kids have loved it and I have wanted to strangle them LESS.

But we are almost done so I'm sending a plea out to all my much craftier friends I need some more ideas. David will be gone for 6 more weeks so in order to keep me sane and the kids alive I need HELP!!

try letting them make cards for Daddy with old scraps of photos or other junk you have laying around the house or make sock puppets out of yarn and, you know, old socks. Then have them write a script. or make a castle out of boxes. (I went to a furniture store and got one from a fridge) (betcha didnt think I was one of your "craftier" friends. Or you could call me and I could give you a list a mile long!!

Oh, and I don't know how to make aprons or anything on the sewing machine. Just an idea.

Oh Chantel you little crafter you!

I love, love, love, the yoga bag. What a great idea!

I think you should make t-shirts with the girls. It's a very Chantel kind of craft. And all you need are some blank t's, freezer paper and some paint (fabric paint if you can find it -- but others kinds work too). Go here for instructions http://www.designmom.com/2009/03/
freezer-paper-stencils.html

I have a few more ideas for you but I'll e-mail them.

Oh & I love the p.j.'s. Lily had been begging me to teach her how to sew and I just haven't done it. I need to be a better mum -- like you of course.

Sorry David is gone. That stinks. I hate being home alone. I love your yoga bag. How come Charlotte isn't making pajama pants?:)That's fun that you're doing pants with the girls. I made these string easter baskets when I was about their age. I remember they were fun. I found a website that tells you how to make them. www.highlightskids.com. Or you could paint ceramic pots and plant something. have fun

Go you! Wish I had that much ambition!

Gardening season is right around the corner--try starting some seedlings indoors and getting your garden plot ready. Kids love an excuse to get their hands dirty!

Bead projects would also be perfect for your girls. Just necklaces and bracelets to start, and who knows how far they'll go?

Good luck with rotations. Just keep that end goal in sight. Every day that you keep those kids alive is another victory!

Wow! You have been all kinds of busy! I LOVE that you are sewing with your girls. They are going to appreciate that forever -- learning to sew from such a young age at their mother's side. I'm a bit jealous! :) You are such a good mom. It sounds like you have done some great projects. I LOVE that yoga bag! So cool! You are so talented!

I love the yoga bag. Wow, that turned out great! You should definitely sell those on Etsy! I'll buy one!

I wish I had some crafty ideas but I haven't been so crafty in a very long time. I am impressed you are teaching your girls how to sew! That is great.

Good luck on the 'not killing your girls' adventures, the jammie pants are cute and I am glad no fingers were sewn through in the process....and hey the concensus is that you should start making and selling your oh-so-cute yoga bag.
You are awesome, good luck with the next 6 or so weeks...
