We went into Suburban Hospital to get an Ultrasound today. Next thing we knew they were hooking up monitors and IVs. Chantel was being induced! It was slow at first (we had time to watch "The Wedding Singer" on cable, a true classic), but in the end it only took about 10 minutes of pushing and we had another beautiful baby girl. Chantel's epidural didn't work so she's claiming it was a natural birth... she would. :) She was a trooper. A pathetically cute, helpless, I-hate-the-anesthesiologist-screaming trooper, but a trooper nonetheless. Honestly, she was really tough and I'm proud of her. It did not look easy. I love her for this one.
I mean look at her! This is 30 seconds after giving birth. Wow. This little girl beat the snot out of Chantel from the inside out! Chantel's going to kill me for posting this photo. I only have on thing to say baby: Tabitha in a dental chair.
So, Chantel and I had not undergone final negotiations on the name, but after the baby was born we both went back to a name that we've loved for months: Evangeline Vera Dick. We may call her "Angie" for short. Who knows? Evangeline is a chubby little thing with a grouchy, scrunched face and reddish-brown hair. She tipped the scales at 8 pounds and an ounce. We're just glad she's whole and finally here. Our final few weeks here in Buffalo have felt pretty anticlimactic... until today.
P.S. If you want to call Chantel in the hospital tomorrow (12/16), her number there is (716) 568-3202. I know she'd love to here from you all.

YAY!!! Both ladies look absolutely gorgeous. Welcome to the family, Evangeline!
Ohhh...she's so cute. Chubby babies are always the cutest. Congratulations! I like her name. Way to go Chantel! Sorry about the epidural:( I know all about natural birth and I feel your pain. I heard someone say "having a baby is like pooping a watermelon" and I add an amen to that:) So happy for you guys. She's beautiful.
David you get serious props for keeping us all up-to-date! Thanks so much! I have to say I love your humor. :)
Hooray for Chantel making it through the epidural failure! Chan, you ARE a champ! The same thing happened to me with Cole - not fun!. I hope you used your deep cleansing yoga breaths :)
Congratulations to all of you! She is absolutely gorgeous!! I am so happy for you oh and I really love her name!
Sending love from Utah!
Congratulations!
It was so fun to hold her- eyes open the whole time. She is beautiful!
So Fun!! I can't believe you guys have four girls now. I wish we got to see you guys more often, but you look like you're doing so well. Congratulations on the baby! Hope all goes well. Please let us know if we can help with anything. Love you guys.
Congratulation!! I haven't talked to you guys in ages. Evangeline is SUPER adorable!! Congrats again!
Congratulations!!! I was wondering when that little girl was coming. Chan--kudos for going without a beloved epidural. She is beautiful!
Congratulations! So glad that your little girl is finally here. Chantel, I can TOTALLY relate to the unintentional natural child birth... except I had NO epidural whatsoever. I hope you're not too traumatized. Evangeline is a beautiful name. Take care and Merry Christmas!
She's lovely to say the least.
Another beautiful addition to our world. Love you guys.
Congrats on the beautiful baby girl & congrats on finishing school! Have a merry one.
Congratulation, she is a cutie. We can't wait to see her in person!
Hip Hip for you Dave...what a guy! She is beautiful...what else could she be? Love from the Cottles!
Congratulations guys!! I am a little late, but believe me, I will remember this little girl's birthday for a long time to come, because it is the coolest birth date ever. (IMHO) Just to clarify (for David), giving birth with an epidural that does not work is actually WORSE than a (planned) natural birth in that the poor screaming mother has not mentally nor physically prepared for such trauma. (Spoken from personal experience, twice.) Way to go, Chantel! Evangeline is just beautiful, by the way.
